The Cricket season is now in full swing!

Cricket

The 1st XI Boys made a good start to the season. They had an excellent match against Shrewsbury School. William, Dan and Max were the pick of the bowlers, with Shrewsbury scoring 220 runs. Fin batted well for his 48, as did Toby who scored an unbeaten 81. Ollie also contributed an excellent 28 off 14 balls. The game went down to the last over and unfortunately Wrekin lost out by just 5 runs. On Saturday, the team bowled well against Denstone and reduced them to 160, Dan was the pick of the bowlers again, and a special mention must go to William for taking an outstanding one handed catch. Wrekin finished 60 short but with plenty to learn from.

The 1st XI Girls played Shrewsbury School in a well fought match, where the opposition just took the win with 14 balls left to bowl. Shaunte took 2 wickets and scored the highest amount of runs. The game was played in great spirit by both schools.

The Under 14s played Shrewsbury School in a Pairs Cricket match. Shrewsbury won the toss and decided to bowl first. After 24 overs, Wrekin managed an impressive 87 runs on a tricky field. Ollie took 28 off 12 balls and Sam took 20 off 15 balls. Shrewsbury chased the total in 18 overs. Toby with 2 overs for only 10 runs and Harry with a brilliant stumping. The pick of the bowlers was Alex taking 18 for 3 after 2 overs, but Shrewsbury ultimately won by 5 wickets.

An early outing for the Under 15s lead to a list of improvements needed to secure a win. Chasing 188, Morgan scored a strong 42 but we fell well short. The Under 14s travelled to Denstone. Having kept the opposition to 120, a measured 35 from Oli set the tone, but the team just fell short requiring 13 runs. Seven teams were out on Saturday against Denstone College and although the results didn’t go our way, Mr Shaw was delighted with the effort from everyone who played.

Tennis

The Under 15s took on a strong Moreton Hall team in their LTA league fixture, sadly losing out this time. The girls played really well, with Avril playing some great tennis! A special mention goes to the girls who stepped up last minute for the team, showing great Wrekin spirit.
