Sports Report
Another action packed week of Sport at Wrekin, with both friendly and Cup fixtures taking place.
Netball
The Under 14s produced an outstanding win against King Henry's, Coventry in the National Cup, with Lancaster pupil Mya being awarded player of the match. The Under 13s lost a close cup game on Friday, but go again in the the National Shield against Edgbaston H.S for Girls. The 1st team start their National Cup campaign with a home game against RGS Worcester this week.
Cross Country
The first of the Telford Schools’ cross country league saw Chloe win by well over a minute, cementing her position as the top inter girl cross country runner in Shropshire . Charlie was a close second in the Year 8 race. Fin and Arthur put in strong performances, the latter in his first ever race for Wrekin. The cross country teams next race is the first round of the English Schools’ Cup on October 2nd.
Hockey
The Girls Hockey teams played a large block fixture against Denstone. The 1st XI came away with a very hard fought 1-1 draw, with Martha from 4th form making her 1st XI debut, and the 2nd XI narrowly lost out 2-1. The Under 13 and Under 12 teams played two matches, winning one and losing one. Special mention goes to Eira who scored four goals in her first ever match for Wrekin.
On Saturday, the Under 15s took on a very strong Princethorpe team at home, they lost 2-0, but learnt a great deal in the process. Lancaster Girls were away at Princethorpe, and played some excellent hockey but sadly lost out this time. Players of the match went to goalkeepers Lucy and Emily.
Rugby
Errors from both the Under 16s and 1st team on Wednesday defined school boy rugby. Both teams trained well on Thursday to rectify this, before their games were abruptly stopped by lightning and thunder! The Under 16s were leading 12-0, thanks to two tries from George and a wall of defence. The 1st were stopped while chasing the game 19-5 down.
Travelling away, the Under 15s played some classy rugby but lost 22-12, a game they lost by over 30 points last year. The Under 14As were defeated by a huge Malvern team, so a tackling this week for the boys!
The game of the weekend was the 60 points to 50 effort of the Under 14B team. A wonderful game of participation and involvement- well done all. Availability this week has been outstanding, thank you to all involved for your support.
Football
A commendable set of results for the Lancaster Boys, with all squads coming away victorious against Packwood. The Under 13A won 4-1, with three goals from Seb, and one from Ajai, the man of match was Alfie. The Under 13B side came away 4-2 winners. Dougie had a standout display, scoring two goals from right back.
Under 13C game went very well with the boys coming away with a 10-0 win. There were particularly noteworthy performances from Samuel (3 goals), Adam (3 goals) and captain Kaelem (2 goals).
Badminton
The Under 18s against Ellesmere was a close-run match, with most games being won by a very small margin. Ellesmere won 10 matches to Wrekin’s 5 but there was some very fine badminton played, and Wrekin showed their usual grit and tenacity. Thanks especially to those players who do not normally play competitively, but who stepped up to make up the numbers as many were out on trips that day.
