Cross Country

20 athletes ran at the first round of the English Schools’ Cup for Cross Country at Longdon Park. There were stand out runs from Chloe, 1st place in the Inter Girls, 5th place for Summer in the Junior Girls, 3rd place for Charlie in Junior Boys and 3rd place for Finn in Inter Boys. The Schools Cup is a uniquely team event with the top two Shropshire teams qualifying for the regional round. The inter boys team of Ed, Harry and Hugo packed well behind, finishing in a superb 2nd place, beating local rivals Shrewsbury by 10 points, meaning they have qualified for Regionals. This is an outstanding achievement from a group of boys who wouldn’t necessarily class themselves as runners.

First form pupil, Summer came third in the Shrewsbury School Prep Schools Championship.

Congratulations to Chloe who was 4th in the Year 10/11 Girls race in the English Schools Fell Running Championships.

Football

The Under 16 squad progressed into the last 32 of the National Cup with a convincing 5-0 victory over Lakelands School.

All Lancaster Boys were involved in matches against Repton with some notably good results, the D squad playing out a tightly contested 1-1 draw. Every Lancaster Boy represented Wrekin well. The Under 13A squad played out a tough game against strong London opposition in Lochinver House School. A good learning experience for all involved.

Rugby

The Under 16s ran out runners up in the inaugural Shropshire 10-a-side Rugby Festival, hosted here. The forward heavy squad worked wonderfully hard in this rarely played format. Well done boys.

Swimming

In swimming, Finley, Esmay, Holly and Beth took part in the British Inter County Championships at Sheffield.  In the Team Relay, they had an outstanding swim, with Finley gaining a PB on his leg of the race.

Hockey

In Girls Hockey, the Under 13s played some excellent Hockey against Moreton Hall. The A team lost 2-1, and the B team won 2-0. The Under 13 A, B and C, as well as the Under 12 A and B teams travelled to RGS Worcester where all teams gave there all and played some nice Hockey but lost out on this occasion to very strong opposition.

The Under 18 Girls competed in the county finals. They showed true team spirit throughout the afternoon losing 3 matches against Ellesmere, Shrewsbury and Moreton, and winning 1 against Shrewsbury High school. A special mention to Shaunte as she was credited by every opposition coach for how she led the Wrekin girls, and marshalled a very strong defence.

In Boys Hockey, the Wrekin Men’s Hockey Club team had their first fixture of the season away at Newport Hockey Club. The Boys battled hard and came out 3-0 winners, with Moritz scoring all 3 goals on his Wrekin Men’s team debut. Well done to all involved in a yet again a very busy week on the Astros!

The Under 14 Girls also had their county finals. A brilliant 4-0 win against Ellesmere with goals from Eleanor, Tamara, Niamh and Zara, and a draw with Shrewsbury School 1-1, the goal coming from a well worked Niamh short corner, earned themselves the title of Shropshire county champions. They now progress into the Midlands Finals in November!
