Sports Report

The better weather allowed all fixtures to happen last week…

Football

The First XI won 4-2 at Haberdasher’s Adam’s, with excellent performances from all involved. The Under 16 Football Team have advanced to the last 16 of the National Cup with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Thomas Keble School. Every player contributed to the team’s success, with goals from Josh, Arran, and Sammy securing the win. Special recognition goes to Morgan, whose crucial late penalty save kept the game from heading to extra time and ensured Wrekin’s place in the competition.

Congratulations to Arran who was recently selected to play football for the England Under 16 Independent Schools team against Australia. A fantastic achievement being selected for an International fixture.

Basketball

Wrekin got their first win of the season against Ellesmere. Some great individual performance combined with excellent team work resulted in a commanding 31-18 victory.

Swimming

Good luck to all the school swimmers who will be competing at the Shropshire County Championships over the next three weekends.

Netball

The majority of Lancaster Girls have represented the school this week.  The Under 13 A&B teams had convincing wins over Birchfield on Wednesday. And on Saturday, in a triangular fixture at home, lost out to strong teams from Solihull school, but bounced back with a clean sweep over Prestfelde.  This week the 1st team travel to Oxford for their quarter-final National Cup clash against St Helens & St Katherine’s.

Rugby

With mixed Lancaster results, the boys enthusiasm has been vast! At Prestfelde, two huge squads learnt plenty. the Under 13s produced a draw, with excellent early season performances from Ellick, Archie and Eden. The Under 12s lost, but after more tackling, we’ll have this fixed.

At the weekend, squad rotation and game time was key. Two losses to Adam’s, who have been playing since September. A few more weeks preparation and results could look different!

Cricket

The Under 13 Girls cricketers took part in the ECB Indoor Cricket Tournament.  Although very cold, the girls competed well throughout, with their bowling proving to be a real strength and the batting rapidly improving.  This wasn't enough to make the final however, as they bowed out at the semi-final stage.  The whole squad should be congratulated on a fantastic effort.

Hockey

The Boys Hockey 1st XI had their first school fixture of the season against a very strong Abbotsholme team. They lost out on this occasion, but it was a great experience for the new members of the 1st XI. The 2nd XI also had their first games playing a triangular fixture against Oswestry School and Ellesmere College. On Saturday the Under 15s beat Ellesmere college 2-0, well taken goals from Ollie and Ollie.

In Girls Hockey, the Under 13s took part in the county tournament. The girls beat Packwood 3-0, Sir John Talbot 4-0 and Shrewsbury girls high 3-0. Finishing top of their group, They faced a strong Prestfelde team in the semi final, narrowly losing out 1-0. In the 3rd and 4th playoff, Esmay scored a last minute winner to clinch 3rd place and the bronze medal.

Fencing

In fencing, Wrekin met Repton away for a stirring Epee Match. The Wrekin squad won two out of four matches resulting in a draw, an impressive result for Nick, Igor, and Malek, all of whom are new to fencing this year. They were skillfully led by their Captain Martin. We look forward to the rematch in March.
