Sports Round-up

This week, every year group took to the cricket field for fixtures against Prestfelde School in what proved to be a fantastic celebration of sport, teamwork, and determination. Despite the challenging weather conditions, we were delighted to continue hosting the Prestfelde Under 9 boys' and girls' teams on our outstanding double all-weather playing facilities.

While the focus of the week was on participation and progress, there were several victories that deserve special mention:

  • The Under 9 Powerhouse: Our Junior teams were in unstoppable form. The Under 9A, B, and C teams all secured convincing wins, showcasing a depth of talent that bodes very well for the future of Wrekin cricket.
  • The Under 11 Dominance: Beyond the middle years, the Under 11D team also played brilliantly well to record a convincing win, playing with great discipline and flair.
  • The Nail-Biter of the Week: A huge congratulations to Mr Williams' Under 11B team. The team secured a hard-fought victory, winning by a narrow margin of 8 runs. Their composure under pressure was a testament to their hard work in training.
  • Girls' Hard Ball Cricket: A special mention must go to the Girls Under 11A team, who made the transition to hard ball cricket this week. They have been thoroughly enjoying hardball lessons with Mr Lowes, and it is great to see them putting into practice their new skills with the hardball.
  • Across the Year Groups: From the foundational skills shown by Year 3 to the strategic play in Year 6, the "huge improvements" noted by the teachers were evident across all teams. Whether it was a first-ever wicket or a perfectly timed boundary, every player contributed to a stellar week of sport.

"Seeing every pupil in the Upper Prep years involved in fixtures this week has been a joy. The level of improvement from the start of the term to now is vast, and the Under 11B win really highlighted the competitive but inclusive spirit we are nurturing here at Wrekin Prep." — Mr Sturrock
