Sports Round-up

From festivals to tournaments, our pupils continue to impress with skill, teamwork, and determination

Football Highlights
It has been an exciting period for football at Wrekin Prep. Our Under 11 team produced an outstanding performance at the Terra Nova Tournament, competing against 15 teams, playing seven matches without conceding a goal, and holding their nerve in two penalty shootouts. The team went on to win the trophy after a dramatic final against a school from Bangkok, Thailand.

In addition, Wrekin Prep was proud to host the Under 11 Girls’ Football Festival, welcoming 10 teams and over 100 players for an afternoon celebrating participation and progression in girls’ sport. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop their skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Under 11 Hockey Tournament at Terra Nova
The Under 11 hockey team travelled to Terra Nova to take part in their hockey tournament, an excellent opportunity to face schools outside of our regular circuit. To qualify for the finals, the girls had to top their group, which they did with great determination.

Two very closely fought matches followed, leaving the team tied for second place. Unfortunately, goal difference meant they finished third overall. It was, however, a superb afternoon of competitive hockey, and the girls should be proud of the way they played, remaining calm under pressure and showing true resilience.

Under 9 Girls’ Football: County Cup Success
Our Under 9 Girls’ Football team recorded an excellent victory against St Luke’s Primary School in the County Cup, securing their place in the next round of the competition. The girls demonstrated outstanding teamwork, determination, and fair play throughout the match, and we are extremely proud of the way they represented Wrekin Prep.
