Toby Selected for Prestigious National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain
Rising Wrekin musician joins one of the UK’s leading youth orchestras
We are delighted to announce that First Form pupil, Toby, has been selected to perform French Horn in the main orchestra of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO), one of the country’s most prestigious ensembles for young musicians. This is a remarkable achievement and reflects Toby’s exceptional talent, dedication, and commitment to music.
Toby began his musical journey at Wrekin Prep, studying French Horn, Trumpet, and Piano, achieving Grade 7 at a young age. His early development was guided by Ms Jade Harris, Director of Music at Wrekin Prep, whose expertise ensures that pupils’ musical talents are nurtured from a young age. Participation in the NCO provides Toby with challenging and rewarding experiences through rehearsals, concerts, and holiday programmes.
At Wrekin Senior, Toby continues to flourish as a musician, performing in the award-winning Concert Band and Jazz Band, as well as the Orchestra and Chapel Choir, under the guidance of Mr Simon Platford MBE, Director of Music at Wrekin Senior. Mr Platford shared his thoughts on this wonderful achievement:
''Toby attaining a place in the National Children's Orchestra is a testament to how committed he and his family are to his music. He is already a key part of what we do here at Wrekin and this experience will provide further stretch for him but also the opportunity to play alongside similar like minded musicians of his age. Hopefully in the future he will take things even further and be the first Wrekinian to gain a place in the National Youth Orchestra for over 20 years. Bravo Toby!"
We congratulate Toby on this outstanding achievement and look forward to following his musical journey as he continues to excel.
