Under 16 England Hockey National Vase Champions

Dominant performances and a 3–1 final victory seal a historic achievement in Nottingham.

In a first for Wrekin boys' hockey, both the U14s and U16s teams were this season both crowned regional champions and made it through to national finals; a phenomenal achievement.  

The Under 16 boys’ hockey team delivered a truly outstanding performance at their national final competition in Nottingham, showcasing exceptional skill, composure and determination.

From the very start of the tournament, the team set the tone with a series of dominant displays in the group stages, securing impressive victories over University College School (6–0), Sedbergh (3–1) and Prior Park (1–0). Their disciplined approach, attacking flair and defensive resilience saw them progress confidently into the final.

In a superbly contested final, Wrekin rose to the occasion when it mattered most, producing a composed and clinical performance to secure a 3–1 victory over Hitchin Boys’ School. The team demonstrated maturity beyond their years, combining teamwork and determination to deliver under pressure and claim a well-deserved national title.

A special mention goes to Jacob, who finished as the top goal scorer across all teams on the day, an outstanding individual achievement!

Our U14 team absolutely gave their all on the day, showing real Wrekin spirit on a tough day of competition. We congratulate the whole team for all they have achieved this season. 

Both teams making it through to national finals represents a historic achievement for hockey at Wrekin and a proud moment for the entire school community. The success is a testament not only to the players’ hard work and commitment, but also to the dedication and support of the staff and coaches, whose guidance has been instrumental in helping the team reach this level.
