Wrekin Exchange

Wrekin’s exchange programme offers students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience education in a different country, and host an international pupil in return. Here are what three of our students had to say about their experience.

Isaac - Necochea, Argentina

My exchange trip to Argentina was an unbelievable experience! I got to meet some amazing people who have remained in contact with and definitely hope to see again some day, along with my exchange, Francisco.

My favourite thing has to be the steak and all other sorts of food I tried over there. The social aspect surrounding big meals between friends at houses and also maté (a traditional herbal tea) being passed around a classroom between students and teachers was certainly a unique experience. I highly recommend the exchange should you have the opportunity to do it!

Ayla - Sydney, Australia

During my time in Australia I underwent a series of truly exciting trips and experiences that I would have never got the opportunity to do anywhere else in the world. I had the incredible opportunity to explore some of the most iconic landmarks and dive into unique Aussie culture. Bondi Beach, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge were ticked off my bucket list, just to start!

My travels also took me beyond Sydney, into more rural areas like Narromine, a small town where experienced the agrarian side of Australia. It was here that I saw kangaroos and wallabies for the first time, hopping through the countryside, as well as eating out of my hand in the rescue centre. As well as action-packed weekends, one of the most unique aspects of my exchange was attending classes at an all-girls school, where I got to experience the Australian education system first-hand.

"It was the best experience of my life and I am so glad that I didn’t miss out!"

Angharad - Necochea, Argentina

It took quite a lot of back and forth emotions to decide to sign up for the exchange: the thought of travelling nearly 7000 miles across the world, to a foreign country, to stay with a foreign family, is quite a daunting one. But also, exhilarating. So of course, I decided to bite the bullet and send in my application. I am so very grateful that I did, because I can proudly say that it was the best experience of my life and I am so glad that I didn't miss out! I spent an incredible weekend in Buenos Aires, exploring the culture, the friendliness of the citizens and the food.

I then travelled to the city of Necochea, where my exchange partner, Pilar, resides. We spent time exploring the city and spent time in one of the local schools, where I enjoyed taking part in lessons like Italian, English and History - learning many new things about Argentina’s history and culture. I hope to return soon!
