Wrekin Prep Sport Round-Up
It has been another busy and exciting fortnight of sport at Wrekin Prep, with pupils demonstrating tremendous skill, determination and teamwork across football, rugby and PE.
NETBALL
We enjoyed a brilliant afternoon of netball at Terra Nova, taking two Under 11 teams for some excellent matches. The girls demonstrated quick passing and movement, showed real determination in defence, and kept their composure when shooting under pressure.
It was fantastic to see the teamwork, effort, and enthusiasm on display throughout the afternoon. A great experience for all involved, with some truly impressive netball played.
Football
Under 11 Girls – Tournament Success
What a fantastic tournament for the Under 11 Girls’ Football team. The squad topped their group with confident, organised performances and remained defensively outstanding throughout the competition.
After a brilliant and closely fought semi-final, the team were narrowly beaten on penalties. Showing great character, they bounced back to win the third/fourth place play-off, finishing the tournament on a high.
Remarkably, the team did not concede a single goal in 60 minutes of open play across the day; a superb achievement. Skill, resilience and teamwork were on display throughout, and the girls represented themselves and the school superbly.
Under 10 Girls – Semi-Final Heartbreak
The Under 10 Girls produced a dominant and spirited performance in their semi-final, controlling large periods of the game and creating numerous chances. Despite their efforts, a late goal three minutes from time saw them narrowly defeated 2–1. Although the result did not go their way, the girls showed exceptional teamwork, resilience and determination throughout. It was a performance full of promise and pride, and they should be incredibly proud of their efforts.
Under 11 Girls vs Kings Hawford
It was a wonderful afternoon of football as Kings Hawford travelled to Wrekin Prep for an Under 11 girls’ fixture. With over 30 girls involved across two matches, it was fantastic to see such strong participation and enthusiasm. Both games were played in excellent spirit, with players demonstrating growing confidence, strong teamwork and great sportsmanship. It was particularly pleasing to see the girls applying the skills developed in lessons and supporting one another throughout.
Rugby
Year 3 and 4 Boys
It was a busy and exciting afternoon of rugby for our Year 3 and 4 boys, with every pupil given the opportunity to represent Wrekin Prep. Over 30 boys took part in a series of matches filled with enthusiasm, skill and plenty of tries. The teamwork, effort and sportsmanship on display were outstanding, making it a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all involved.
Under 11 Team
The boys thoroughly enjoyed their fixture at Oswestry, playing with real confidence and teamwork throughout. There were plenty of fantastic tries scored and just as impressive was the hard work and discipline shown in their defensive line.
Packwood Rugby Festival
Our Under 9 and Under 8 teams had a brilliant time at the rugby festival at Packwood, with all four teams putting in fantastic performances. Every player showed great effort, teamwork, and determination, playing some exciting rugby while representing the school superbly.
A special mention goes to the Under 9 contact team, who impressed with strong running, excellent support play, and outstanding teamwork.
swimming
Our Under 11 girls and boys competed in the English Schools Relay Championships, delivering fantastic performances in both freestyle and medley relays. We now have our fingers crossed for national qualification!
Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 swimmers raced at the IAPS Regional Swimming Competition, going head-to-head with over 100 swimmers from nine schools. With several first-place finishes and excellent relay performances, we’re hopeful that some of these times will secure a place for the team in the National Finals in London.
Back at school, our Year 3 and 4 pupils took part in their House Swimming Gala, with Houses cheering loudly from poolside. It was a fantastic afternoon of racing, with Cressage Squirrels emerging as the winners.
PE Spotlight
Year 3 Gymnastics
As part of their PE curriculum, Year 3 pupils have been exploring the gymnastic apparatus, developing strength, balance and coordination.
It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they challenge themselves with new skills and demonstrate growing confidence and teamwork. The progress made over the past few weeks has been fantastic; well done, Year 3.
