Wrekin Senior Sport Weekly Round-Up

Despite difficult weather conditions, Wrekin Sport continued to compete across a wide range of fixtures, producing some excellent performances and memorable results.

Netball
There was plenty of success on the netball courts this week. The 2nds secured a strong win over Lucton 1st team, while the under 15 and under 14 sides also came out on top. The Lancaster teams continued the winning momentum with victories against Charlton School.

Wrekin travelled to Solihull School where the under 13A team delivered an impressive 35–9 win and the under 13B followed with a close 12–9 victory. The under 12A and under 12B teams narrowly lost out in competitive matches.

The under 16s also faced a tough challenge against Princethorpe under 18 1st team. Although they were defeated, the fixture provided valuable preparation ahead of today’s National Cup under 16 semi-final away at Bury Grammar School.

Boys Hockey
The boys 1st XI produced one of their finest performances of the season, defeating a strong Sandbach 1st XI 3–0. The under 14 side also faced Sandbach but narrowly lost 2–0.

The staff and student league team recorded a superb 2–1 victory over league leaders Bloxwich HC, with Moritz scoring both goals. On Saturday, they returned to action and secured another excellent result, beating Telford HC 2–0 — once again with Moritz scoring twice. The team now find themselves pushing for another promotion in what could be back-to-back successful seasons.

Rugby
The under 13s continued their County Cup campaign with an emphatic win over Mary Webb, scoring eight tries without reply. Later the same day, they faced Oswestry in extremely difficult conditions and were defeated four tries to one.
