Year 1 Celebrate Purim
Year 1 pupils have enjoyed learning about the Jewish festival of Purim. They began the day by reading the story of Esther. The pupils loved taking part in the storytelling, especially when the evil character Haman was mentioned! Each time his name appeared in the story, the room filled with boos and the sound of stomping feet, as is traditional during Purim celebrations.
Pupils also had time to make a special Purim treat called hamantaschen. These delicious pastries are triangular in shape, representing Haman’s hat, and are filled with a sweet centre. To continue the celebrations, the pupils made colourful masks. During Purim, many Jewish people dress up as characters from the story of Esther and wear masks as part of the festivities.
Happy Purim!
