Year 1 Explore Portraiture at Shrewsbury Museum
A creative day of drawing, painting and discovery
Year 1 had a fantastic day at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, taking part in a challenging and creative portrait workshop.
We began with a tour of the museum, looking closely at a range of portraits and noticing details such as facial features, expression, light and shadow. The children then learned how to draw individual facial features before using these new skills to create their own self-portraits.
They explored colour mixing, tints and shadows when painting their portraits and produced some absolutely fantastic artwork. We were so impressed by the care, concentration and creativity they showed throughout the session.
We finished our day with a scavenger hunt around the museum, which was a brilliant way to explore some of the other fascinating objects and displays before heading back to school.
