Year 2 Explore the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre
Year 2 enjoyed a busy day of hands-on learning at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, combining food, history and outdoor adventure.
The day began with a look at different vegetables and the parts of plants we eat before pupils got stuck into chopping, slicing and dicing a range of vegetables to make a healthy vegetable soup.
There was plenty of practical learning in the kitchen, too. Pupils made bread from scratch, measuring, mixing, cracking eggs and kneading the dough. They also discovered just how much arm power it takes to make butter, shaking a jar of cream until it transformed!
While the soup was cooking, pupils travelled back to the Ice Age. They met a woolly mammoth, tried on typical clothing and gathered around a campfire, bringing their learning to life.
At lunchtime, it was time to taste the results of their hard work. The soup, freshly made bread and butter received a five-star rating from our very own food critics!
In the afternoon, the group headed outdoors with compasses in hand to take on a series of orienteering challenges. They put their navigation skills to the test while enjoying the beautiful Shropshire Hills surroundings.
It was a fantastic day of learning, exploring and getting stuck in; with something new to discover at every turn.
